PASE, Fuji's, waking up late, just hangin' out

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Get an internship, get a job, get experience. Check out INROADS http://www.inroads.org as soon as you can, you may be able to get one through them if you meet their requirements. Try every method for an internship, word of mouth, career/internship fairs, etc, they help a lot when you need a real job. Get a job as a student, it may not be in your field, but it is work experience.

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Take AMS 98 Career Decision Making Class that is offered by the Internship and Career Center. It really helps you determine and achieve the right career path for you. You can find more information on the ICC website: http://icc3.ucdavis.edu/ug-car-class.htm. I took the class my last year at Davis and it truly helped me with the whole process of finding the right career path. Originally, this class was offered to help graduating seniors, but ideally, you want to take it as early as possible even if you’re freshman. Prepare yourself for the future. Take the class!

What do you miss about college?
Meeting new people, going to the meetings, and not worrying about crazy bills. I also miss kicking it at the MU at noon.

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Enjoy college to the fullest and make sure you hold nothing back when you’re there. But study hard and keep in mind why you’re there in the first place. When you go out in the real world make a goal and have faith that no matter how badly things are going that as long as you work hard you’ll reach it.

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Always work hard but remember that college is more than the education. Develop yourself mentally, physically, spiritually, etc. and do not be afraid of change. Go out on a limb at times, take risks. Oh, and for the Civs out there, take advantage of the PASE Exam File. All my old stuff is in there! Viva La Vie Boheme!!!

Live it up! You go through college only once in your life. Make good use of the 4... 5... 6... ?... years that you spend at Davis. Also, find that balance between your school life and your social life. Don't let one take over the other or you'll just stress yourself out.

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
If you can, choose a career doing what you enjoy doing. You'll be happier than if you did it just for the cash, and you will also hopefully command a higher salary because you do a better job at it.

There are lots of tradeoffs in life; you can choose to make insanely large amounts of money, but in the process you will likely not have time for your spouse or kids (working long hours, etc.) Choose your path carefully.

What do you miss about college?
The social life, the fun, the Fil-Am community, PASE, PCN, random trips to Reno, hanging out in the Quad, IM football, the get togethers, the potlucks, late nights with the boys playing Tekken 3, late nights with the boys trying to come up with “The List”. I could go on and on and on….

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Balance is the key. Balance your time with friends, school, and family, and you'll be much happier. From the words of Stachel Paige, "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching."

Make the most out of your college years. Network as much as possible, live within your means, keep your resume up to date and do an internship before graduating so you're more marketable in the real world. Even when you've graduated the learning doesn't stop. Enjoy the journey!

What do you miss about college?
College life in general - it was hard work but it really pays off

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
Just do the best you can to finish school and start networking right away. I'm currently on my fourth job since I've been out of school and the last three I've held, started from a phone call from someone I had already worked with before and had a good working relationship. The first one is sometimes hard to land especially when the economy is slow like it is now or like when I graduated, but you just have to be persistent and keep in touch with people you know in the field.

What do you miss about college?
All the free time! Once you start to work and build your career, you'll wonder when you'll be able to enjoy vacation again. Seriously, my father once told me - The friends you make in college are the friends you'll have for life. So true...

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with current PASE members?
You all know that once you get up to the university or college level, you did not get there by accident (well, ok maybe one or two of us did) so studying hard and dedication should already be second nature. You'll find as I did, that exploring new subjects, taking one or two classes outside your major (I have enough units for a Psychology Minor, by the way) will expose you to and develop skills you'll never know you'll need (or have) until you get out into the "real world".  How you interact with others, how you handle social situations (hint - office politics), and other non-traditional engineering situations will be as important if not more important than whether or not you can solve complex equations (or further shrink the IC). So my friends, enjoy college life to the fullest extent, push the envelope and learn new things (remember the lessons learned as well so as not to repeat them later).  Keep in mind, there will be reference books for you to use at work to design and build stuff (interview hint) - however, you'll not find one that tells you how to interface with other people simply because each person is different! Yes, that is the psychologist in me giving that advice.
